N. Struß, principal (Hamburg)
As principal of an elementary school I must pay attention to the school's development and to ensure that the core of competence within the children is being developed in the best possible way. At our school, for example, the development of language and social competence is a main theme.
Myrtel and Bo fits this area of importance perfectly. It is a suitable course in reading and writing for grades 1 – 4, and in addition to the pure learning of social competence can also be acquired at the same time. Additionally the children obtain a broad general knowledge, which prepares them to multi-disciplinary teaching at secondary schools. This I have learned through feedback of parents whose children already visit grade 5.
I am happy to see the pleasant class atmosphere in which the children are addressed in varied ways with all senses and where competency in reading and writing is acquired almost on the side.
The holistic approach is particulary, for me, an indication that Myrtel and Bo takes into consideration the various talents of children.
However, I have had the experience that the teaching staff must fully stand behind the concept of this teaching program. Otherwise the far-reaching goals of the Myrtel and Bo concept cannot be reached.
